INCLUSIVE + AFFIRMING

Welcoming vs. Inclusive and Affirming

Every church hopes to be welcoming. Hospitality, kindness, and helping people feel at home are faithful expressions of God’s love, and we’re glad to be among the many churches that take those expressions seriously. A warm smile, delicious coffee, people who learn your name–these things help us feel at home. (And who doesn’t want that?)

But what does it mean to be inclusive?

When welcoming says, We’re glad you’re here, inclusion says, You belong here.

When welcoming asks, How do we receive people well, inclusion asks, How do we make sure everyone truly belongs?

When welcoming says, Come worship with us anytime, inclusion says, Come participate in the full life of our church with equal dignity, opportunity to serve, and freedom to respond to God’s call.

At Kindred, we want you to feel welcomed when you walk through the doors, and we want you to know you are welcomed into the full life of our community: to receive communion, ask questions, grow in faith, serve, lead, and answer God’s call without barriers based on gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, race, ability, or background.

And what does it mean to be affirming

Kindred doesn’t just welcome LGBTQ+ folks, but we affirm them, meaning we celebrate their identity without judgment AND fully include them in the life and leadership of our church.

Church isn’t just a place to attend. It’s a community where we are all invited to be transformed by the inclusive love of Jesus and to help transform one another.
